Yes, BARLEYmax® does contain gluten.

The Healthy Grain Company and its partners are developing an ultra-low gluten barley, which will be available in the near future.

However, for people who need to restrict dietary gluten, The Healthy Grain have a product called Ultra Low Gluten Barley, which contains less than 20 ppm (parts per million) of gluten, the level recommended by the World Health Organisation for classification as gluten free.

BARLEYmax® contains 4.5% naturally occurring sugars and there is no added sucrose.

Resistant Starch is found in ‘cool carbs’. When you cook rice, pasta or potatoes, then let them cool down, the resistant starch content of these foods increases. Resistant starch is also found in baked beans, lentils, maize and grains.

No, BARLEYmax® is not genetically modified.

BARLEYmax® wholegrain is non-GM and was developed by CSIRO using traditional plant breeding techniques. These techniques have been used for many years and are well accepted in the plant breeding industry.

Resistant Starch is a non-digestible fibre. This means that it passes through the small intestine (without being digested) and into the gut, where it provides a fuel for the healthy bacteria to promote good digestive health.

Resistant starch has been shown to help improve insulin sensitivity and glucose control and increases satiety to keep you fuller for longer. It also helps to lower cholesterol and promotes bowel regularity and overall good gut health.
